If you’re looking for a fun way to get out of the heat of the sun on a warm summer day, consider taking a cave tour. Cosmic Cavern, near the Eureka Springs and Branson areas, is a great choice when hoping to get a glimpse of the cave formations in the Ozarks. This cave hosts Arkansas’s largest private cave tour; it’s the perfect tour for summertime, even though it also holds the title of Arkansas’s warmest cave at 64 degrees year round! We’d like to thank the Eureka Springs Chamber of Commerce for hosting our visit. As always, all opinions are honest and our own. Arriving at Cosmic Cavern As you drive out to Cosmic Cavern, you’ll enjoy a rural road over hills and through wooded areas. This cave attraction fits in perfectly with its surroundings; it’s not overly commercialized. Cosmic Cavern is just a great cave to explore. When…

For Christmas this year, my husband and I decided to take a getaway together instead of buying each other gifts. We do this often, actually, and I am so grateful to be married to someone who loves trips as much as I do. Since Branson is only an hour and a half away, it often works well for a destination for us as a couple. My parents stay with the kids, and suddenly it’s just the two of us on a little road trip. This year, we stayed at a cabin at Silver Dollar City campground near Branson, Missouri. Formerly, the campground was known as The Wilderness at Silver Dollar City. I’ve always wanted to give it a try, so I thought, why not? I was sure to reserve a cabin with a fireplace. If I was going to do this, I was going to do it right. Luckily, that…

We’d like to thank Paula Deen’s Family Kitchen in Branson, Missouri, for hosting our Sunday lunch.  As always, all opinions are honest and completely our own. Oh, the yummy goodness that is comfort food!  Who can resist those satisfying dishes with a side of nostalgia?  Mashed potatoes, fried chicken, peach cobbler, and sweet tea–Paula Deen’s Family Kitchen has all of this and more.  We were recently lucky enough to get the opportunity to try the delicious offerings at the recently opened Branson location located along Lake Taneycomo at Branson Landing.  With delicious food and fun shopping, Paula Deen’s Family Kitchen is sure to become a highlight for any Branson trip! Paula Deen’s at Branson Landing Located at the north end of the Branson Landing, Paula Deen’s restaurant and store is difficult to miss.  We planned to eat lunch at 11:00 a.m. on a fall Sunday.  We arrived at the Landing…

Silver Dollar City’s fall festival in Branson, Missouri, is one of my favorite festivals of the year.  I’ll admit it.  I was super excited when I heard about the new hours and additions to Silver Dollar City this fall. The park has long offered special crafts, food, and music during the fall days.  Now, guests can explore the park after dark while taking in glowing pumpkins and other decorations.  My family had the opportunity to check out this new event on the opening weekend of Pumpkin Nights.  Though it was still pretty warm, we’re talking upper 80s, I still found myself getting into the spirit of the season.  Read more to see what you can’t miss at Pumpkin Nights during the fall festival. Get There Early Enough to Check out the Crafts and Day Decorations in the Park We headed into the park on that first Saturday at around 5:00…

Last month, we were still in the middle of producing Beauty and the Beast at my high school. If you’ve followed my life, you know that play production is a family affair. We were spending both Saturday and Sunday of most weekends working on the set of the show, and that’s when I didn’t have a speech tournament on Saturdays. When I saw that the Wonders of Wildlife National Museum and Aquarium in Springfield, Missouri, was offering discounted tickets for area appreciation, I thought this might be the perfect way for our family to take a little break and explore a little. After a little research, I learned that our county was part of the promotion that was taking place for the month of March. Though we still had much to do, a little break was just what we needed. One Saturday, instead of heading to the school to build…

Family travel is amazing, but sometimes you just need a little getaway as a couple. Since it’s only an hour and a half away, Jeff and I take a long weekend just for us to Branson every few months. It’s important to take couple time to connect, and we’re lucky to have my parents nearby to spoil Kristin for a weekend every now and then. Planning a Trip In early October, Jeff and I grabbed our calendar to see when we could squeeze in some time for us. We saw the perfect weekend in December.  I’d be finished with coaching speech for the semester, and it would before the craziness of Christmas kicked in, so we took it. As long as the all the stars aligned, including weather and health, we were taking a weekend for us. And as that weekend drew closer, we realized we were eligible to see…

I’ll admit, this title may be a little misleading.  Just know this–Branson, Missouri, does Christmas in a big way.  Branson at Christmas time is a Christmas-lover’s paradise.  But if you’re not feeling it yet and you need a little Christmas, Branson will make any Grinch’s heart grow ten sizes.  Here are my favorite ways to embrace the holidays in Branson. 1. An Old Time Christmas at Silver Dollar City If you only have time for one attraction in Branson during the Christmas season, you should choose An Old Time Christmas at Silver Dollar City.  This 1880s theme park transforms into a magical Christmas town complete with over 6.5 million Christmas lights.  Merry and bright, indeed. Silver Dollar City has so much to offer during Christmas time.  The comfort food is abundant, and you’ll have so many entertainment options that you won’t be able to see everything in one day.  Consider…

If you’re looking for a special place to get into the Christmas spirit, look no further than Silver Dollar City in Branson, Missouri.  Every year during November and December, the park is transformed into a winter wonderland with Christmas touches in every nook and cranny.  My family has been coming to Silver Dollar City at Christmas time for fourteen years, and we often go more than once.  I’d like to share some of the details that make An Old Time Christmas at Silver Dollar City so special while giving you my best tips for making it a memorable trip instead of a miserable one.  Sometimes crowds can dampen even the jolliest of elves’ Christmas joy, so I’ll share with you what I’ve learned through a lot of trial and error. Get to Silver Dollar City Before Opening This really is so helpful in getting the most out of your experience. …

I’d like to thank The Butterfly Palace in Branson, Missouri, for sponsoring our visit.  As usual, all opinions are honest and my own. When you think of rainforests, Branson, Missouri, is probably not the first place that comes to mind.  Still, you can get a little taste of the rainforest right here in the Ozarks.  The Butterfly Palace in Branson is a lovely celebration of some of the most beautiful creatures on Earth. Arriving at The Butterfly Palace The Butterfly Palace is at the very end of the “strip” as you head west as if you were going to drive to Silver Dollar City.  The building itself sits on top of a hill. Right inside the entrance is a gift shop filled with many butterfly-inspired items.  It’s fun to just look through this area.  Right in the center of the room is the ticket booth. There are two floors with various…
