When we started planning the Glacier National Park portion of our road trip, I kept reading about this little place called Polebridge Mercantile that sold delicious huckleberry bear claws that were made right on-site, along with bread, rolls, and other pastries. I read social media posts, articles, and reviews. Mentions of Polebridge Mercantile popped up everywhere, and people were raving. What made this place so great? I was curious enough to investigate. Getting to Polebridge Mercantile During the previous day, we made the trek along Going-to-the-Sun road from the east side of the park. To read about that adventure, click here. After our gorgeous drive, we checked in at the KOA in West Glacier for the night.  The next morning, we were ready to explore the west side of Glacier National Park. But first, we set out to sample some huckleberry bear claws. The map says the drive was about…

If you’re heading to Kansas City and hoping to sample some delicious KC barbecue, you should definitely give Arthur Bryant’s a try. You won’t be sorry. Arthur Bryant’s Barbecue is one of those legendary places to sample Kansas City’s most famous food. It’s not fancy, but don’t let that detour you. Arthur Bryant’s is one of the most well-known names in KC barbecue for a reason–the barbecue is to die for. Arthur Bryant’s: The History It seems Arthur Bryant’s gets its start with a man named Henry Perry, a man often referred to as Kansas City’s “father of Kansas City-style barbecue.”  In the early 1900s, Perry sold smoked meats to people who worked in the Garment District. Later, he moved to 18th and Vine, an area of Kansas City known as the historic Jazz District. This section of KC was sometimes described as a city within a city because the…

Colorado is such a beautiful state, and Estes Park and the surrounding area has some of the most gorgeous scenery you’ll find anywhere. The last major destination of our 2020 road trip ended with a couple of days in this adorable town to check out Rocky Mountain National Park. We fell in love with the area, and we hope to make it back one day soon. If you haven’t been to this area, I certainly hope it’s on your list. Estes Park is right outside the Beaver Meadows entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park. This entrance is on the east side of the park and grants access to Trail Ridge Road, the main scenic thoroughfare from one side of the park to other. This road also takes you past the Alpine Visitor Center, the visitor center at the highest elevation of any visitor center in the United States. We also…

Two Sisters Café is just one of those fun locally-owned places that have an eccentric vibe with no-frills good food. Known for their fried chicken, Two Sisters Café is a great place to stop while you’re exploring the east side of Glacier National Park. The morning we checked out of Old Faithful Lodge in Yellowstone, we made our way north to Browning, a smaller town but one with some amenities, like grocery stores and hotels. In fact, Browning is billed as the largest town on the Blackfeet Reservation. We arrived early enough to get in a swim at the hotel, but soon we were itching to see some of Glacier National Park. I’d read about Two Sisters, and it sounded like a great match for my family. So, we headed over to Babb for dinner with plans to check out Many Glacier in Glacier National Park afterwards. We stopped at…

If you’re looking for a trip that combines adventure with beautiful scenery, look no further than the charming town of Moab, Utah. You’ll find plenty of opportunities for desert fun including Arches National Park, Canyonlands National Park, and Dead Horse Point State Park. When you’re not out exploring, Moab is a nice place to call your home base when you’re ready to shop or unwind in the pool. If you’re wondering what to do while you’re in the area, take a look at what our family did during our three nights and two full days in Moab. For this post, I’ll only be sharing the activities we actually participated in, though we only scratched the surface. There is plenty more fun that we didn’t have time for on this visit to Moab, which happened to be our first! We had such a great time, we hope to return one day.…

While many would probably disagree with me, T-Rex Café in Disney Springs is a great place for families, especially if your family has some eaters on the picky side who would love to have some food options that are familiar. While it is part of the Landry’s family of restaurants, T-Rex Café is now one-of-a-kind since the closure of the Kansas City location. And while you can find similar food options at either of the Rainforest Cafés or Yak and Yeti on Disney property, T-Rex Café is the only place where you can dine near animatronic dinosaurs. How cool is that? Now that I’ve explained the coolness of T-Rex Café, I’ll tell you why this place should be one of your family’s Walt Disney World must-dos! It’s in Disney Springs If you’re planning to take some time away from the parks or your resort, Disney Springs is a great place…

Ever since I learned that the historic Old Faithful Inn was a place, I knew I needed to stay there one day. My dream was realized this summer when we made our first visit to Yellowstone National Park. We also happened to stay on my birthday. How amazing is that? National park lodges sell out quickly, so we booked our two nights at Old Faithful Inn about 11 months in advance. If you’re planning a trip to the most popular parks, I certainly recommend planning your trip a year out so you won’t have to settle for anything less than what you want to do. Plus, you’ll have all year to look forward to your awesome trip! Disclaimer: One thing I should point out right now–Old Faithful Inn is NOT a luxury resort with all the bells and whistles. In fact, if you stay in the Old House like we…

If you’ve ever watched the Food Network, you’re probably at least familiar with Ree Drummond, also known as The Pioneer Woman. Actually, I admire her a lot. She started a blog in 2006 and turned it into an amazing empire–cookbooks, a cooking show, merchandise, a boutique hotel, a magazine, and the Mercantile, a store with a restaurant and bakery located in the small town of Pawhuska, Oklahoma, near her husband’s ranch.  Just imagine being able to showcase your life and turn it into a lucrative career; it’s every blogger’s dream! That’s why when my family had the opportunity to stop by The Pioneer Woman Mercantile, I jumped at the chance. And it wasn’t just because I was a blogger. The food sounded amazing, and getting a chance to see the beautiful items for sale in the store was too hard to resist. So one summer afternoon, we stopped in for…

Savannah, Georgia, is a beautiful place to visit. While the city may have a reputation as a destination for couples or girls-only weekends, Savannah offers a lot of fun for families, especially if you enjoy mixing family fun with history like we do. The Backstory We made the trek to Savannah after one of our Disney World visits. We drive from Joplin, Missouri, so I’m always on the lookout for somewhere to explore on the drive home. I was first drawn in by Savannah’s beauty and charm. I’d read John Berendt’s book, Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, and I’m also a fan of the movie. Add in the book Scarlett by Alexandra Ripley and the movie Forrest Gump, and I had plenty of reasons to make a stop in Savannah. Arriving in Savannah, Georgia We’d just spent two nights in St. Augustine, Florida, so we were only…
