When my birthday rolled around in July, we were ready to get out of town for a few days. After examining a few possibilities, we settled on Nashville. Besides a quick stroll downtown a few years ago, I hadn’t been since I was a teenager. When I discovered that I could get tickets to the Grand Ole Opry on my birthday, I knew what I had to do: We’d be launching my next trip around the sun with Nashville’s historic show. Country Music and Me I won’t lie; I’m not a huge country music fan. I can look at some acts in the past with nostalgia; I remember road trips with my family as Johnny Cash, Elvis, or the Everly Brothers played on the radio. And I love some of the big names over the years–Dolly, Patsy, Loretta, The Judds, and Alabama. If you’re my age, you lived through the…
If you’re looking for a memorable evening experience in Eureka Springs, Arkansas, consider adding The Great Passion Play and The Christ of the Ozarks to your list of family fun. Though the show is seasonal, you can visit all year long and partake in other activities. We visited this attraction on a lovely summer night in July. While it was summertime, we weren’t uncomfortable. As the sun set, we found ourselves immersed in the story of Christ’s last week on earth. We had an amazing experience, and we hope you’ll have one, too! We’d like to thank the Eureka Springs Chamber of Commerce for sponsoring our visit! As always, all opinions are honest and our own. Arriving at The Great Passion Play We arrived after an early dinner about an hour before the show. It’s a little outside of Eureka Springs proper, but it’s not too far. If time had…
Those of you who follow my personal life know that my day job is teaching and my subject areas are English, speech, and theatre. One summer, I was lucky enough to take students on a trip to New York to see Broadway shows and experience the city. Several area schools traveled together, and we had a blast. It was certainly a whirlwind trip–we saw four shows in three days on top of sightseeing and attending some theatre classes with professionals. This wasn’t my first trip to New York, however. When I was sixteen, my family took a road trip that included two days in the city. While we were there, we saw Gypsy with Tyne Daly. Because of these trips, I can’t imagine visiting New York without taking in a Broadway show. There’s something magical about Broadway. If you’re not sure about how you’d feel about seeing a show, I’d recommend…
Family travel is amazing, but sometimes you just need a little getaway as a couple. Since it’s only an hour and a half away, Jeff and I take a long weekend just for us to Branson every few months. It’s important to take couple time to connect, and we’re lucky to have my parents nearby to spoil Kristin for a weekend every now and then. Planning a Trip In early October, Jeff and I grabbed our calendar to see when we could squeeze in some time for us. We saw the perfect weekend in December. I’d be finished with coaching speech for the semester, and it would before the craziness of Christmas kicked in, so we took it. As long as the all the stars aligned, including weather and health, we were taking a weekend for us. And as that weekend drew closer, we realized we were eligible to see…
I’d like to thank the Clay Cooper Theatre for sponsoring our attendance to the performance of Clay Cooper’s Country Express. As always, all opinions are honest and my own. When you think of Branson, Missouri, you may think of country music shows lining the 76 Strip, or the main highway through town. That strip of highway is also known as Country Music Boulevard, and those shows make up Branson’s history. Add the beautiful Ozark Mountains and attractions like Silver Dollar’s City, and you have the family destination of Branson. Though historically those shows featured country music, nowadays the shows along the strip offer a diverse array of music and entertainment options. Clay Cooper’s Country Express is a wonderful example of a show that does it all–music, dancing, and comedy. And the music covers so many genres that there is truly something for everyone; your whole family will love it! Before…
