One of the most popular activities in Grand Teton National Park is to experience the area around Jenny Lake. You can either hike around the lake, or you can take one of the ferries to the other side. We even saw people swimming in the chilly water in June! No matter how you choose to experience the area, you’re in for a treat. Jenny Lake is one of the prettiest places inside the park and not to be missed! Jenny Lake: What to Do Jenny Lake was named after Jenny Leigh, the Shoshone wife of trapper Richard Leigh. Both Jenny and Richard, also known as Beaver Dick, helped guide the Ferdinand Hayden Expedition of 1872. Sadly, Jenny and their six children all died of small pox within a two-week span in December of 1876. The Jenny Lake area is popular in Grand Teton National Park for many reasons. The lake…
One of our favorite experiences at Rocky Mountain National Park was hiking along Bear Lake. It’s a relatively easy hike; the terrain is relatively flat. And here’s a great tip–you don’t have to hike all the way around to see the beauty of the lake. We didn’t. We hiked about halfway and turned around. If you’re looking for a great hike for families in Rocky Mountain National Park, look no further. When Should You Hike Bear Lake Loop When we visited Rocky Mountain National Park, timed entry tickets were required. This is something you definitely want to check into before your trip. You may need to score that reservation before you head out, and sometimes you need to do it a few weeks or months ahead. Bu sure to check out the Rocky Mountain National Park website well in advance as you plan your trip. Most people suggest going to…
We usually make at least one kid-free trip to the Lake of the Ozarks area each year. Since we’re fans of the Netflix show Ozark, we couldn’t resist pre-dinner drinks at a little bar along the strip down by the dam–Marty Byrde’s Bar and Grill. If you’ve seen the show, you know that Marty Byrde is the central character of the show played by Jason Bateman. How can you not check out this place? Just to be clear, we’ve never felt unsafe like the show may make you believe. You also won’t find casinos on riverboats. Sure, you need to exercise regular caution as you would anywhere, but the show is fictional. One thing I always like to do is take a drive down by Bagnell Dam to see the little strip of bars and shops, especially as the sun goes down. If you want to read more about this area,…
Thank you to Tenth Street Hats and Ruggable for providing samples for us to try. As always, all reviews are honest and our own. There’s something rejuvenating about taking a break from the hustle and bustle of our everyday lives and heading into the peaceful tranquility of nature. This last trip to the lake for the summer was certainly a welcome one for me. I’d just returned to the classroom a couple of weeks before, and already I felt overwhelmed. My perfectionism starts to kick in during this time every year, even though I know I’m far from the perfect teacher. Most of the time I’m just treading water trying to survive it all. See what I did there? I hope you enjoy my water reference. Click here to read more about camping and boating at Campbell Point on Table Rock Lake in Shell Knob, Missouri. We love to spend…
One thing my daughter looks forward to all summer is going boating and camping at Campbell Point on Table Rock Lake near Shell Knob, Missouri, with Grandma and Grandpa. Can you blame her? For a seven-year-old, sleeping in the camper is an adventure! And it doesn’t get much better than riding in the boat with the wind in your hair and the sunshine on your skin. Going to Table Rock Lake is a family tradition! Campbell Point If you enjoy camping or boating, Table Rock Lake is a great place. The lake is clean and clear, and the campground is nestled in the Ozark woods. My parents enjoy camping at the Army Corps of Engineers Campground at the Campbell Point Marina. Some of the sites are even lakeside. Click here to see a map of the campground. My parents like to camp in the more wooded area at the full hook-up site.…
